The ingredients of red split lentils with spinach daal are:

INGREDIENTS

  • Red split lentils - 30gm (raw)
  • Fresh spinach - 10 leaves
  • Ginger - ½ inch
  • Turmeric - pinch
  • Red chilli chopped - as per taste
  • Fresh coriander - 10gms
  • Garlic - 1-2 cloves, peeled and chopped
  • Jeera powder - ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
  • Oil - ½ tsp
  • Tomato puree - 1 tbsp

DIRECTIONS

  • Boil 1 cup of water and add lentils with the ginger and turmeric, simmer for 20 minutes or until soft.
  • Add the washed and chopped spinach,tomato puree and coriander and simmer for another 10 minutes.
  • In a frying pan, heat the oil and gently add the remaining ingredients for one minute. This is known as the "tadka". Pour tadka over the daal and simmer for a further 5 minutes.
  • Serve red split lentil with spinach daal with fluffy basmati rice or fresh chapati.
